We provide in-office exercise treadmill tests. This test is
used to confirm the diagnosis of coronary disease or angina,
follow the progress of coronary disease, predict the risk
of further heart problems, help evaluate response to treatment,
or to evaluate physical fitness.
|
You will be connected to the EKG, your blood pressure
and heart rate will be recorded before you start exercising. You
will begin walking on the treadmill. The speed and slope of the
treadmill are increased approximately every three minutes. The test
is stopped if your EKG or blood pressure changes significantly.
It is also stopped if you have chest pain or signs of exhaustion
appear. Otherwise it is continued until a set workload is reached.
The workload is generally determined by a formula that depends on
the heart rate during exercise. The target heart rate is usually
at least 85% of the number 220 minus your age.
After your heart rate and blood pressure return
to baseline, you will be allowed to leave. A report will be called
to your referring physician immediately, if available, and a hard
copy of the report will follow.
